Lima teachers' medical, dental premiums increase

LIMA, Ohio - Lima City Schools teachers are losing more from their paychecks because of an increase in medical and dental premiums.

Medical costs are increasing 35 percent, and dental costs are jumping 25 percent. The teachers, along with other public school teachers in the county, are part of a consortium where all premiums go into a pool. Because claims are $1.6 million over revenue, the consortium's board chose to raise the premiums.

Union officials are hoping the board will raise the $550 cap on district contributions. Superintendent John McEwan said he will look into the situation.
