3/22/2001

Two blood drives will be held as part of American Red Cross Month, local blood services officials have announced.

Blood drives will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Christ the King Church, 4100 Harvest Lane, and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Owens Community College in Perrysburg Township.

Walk-in donations will be accepted from those who are at least 17, weigh at least 110 pounds, are in good general health, and have not donated in 56 days.

American presidents have designated March as American Red Cross Month since 1943, when Franklin D. Roosevelt recognized the organization as part of the war effort, said Myndi Milliken, spokeswoman for the Red Cross' western Lake Erie region blood services.
