Former Marblehead man guilty in holdup, break-in

SANDUSKY - After deliberating for three hours over two days, an Erie County Common Pleas Court jury yesterday convicted a former Marblehead man of holding up a gas station clerk and burglarizing a local home.

Gerald Haskins, 33, showed no reaction as the jury found him guilty of aggravated burglary, burglary, tampering with evidence, felonious assault, aggravated robbery, and robbery in connection with two crimes on May 26. Haskins was convicted of three specifications for carrying either a knife or a gun.

Haskins entered the BP Station on West Washington Street about 7 a.m. May 26 and demanded money from clerk Edith Neumeyer, who was working alone. Ms. Neumeyer said Haskins had a weapon but she was not injured.

At about 11 p.m. that same day, Haskins walked through the open front door of Mary Buser's house and approached the woman, who was sitting in a living room chair. Haskins, who had a knife, quickly left the home after Ms. Buser started kicking him.

Haskins could receive up to 36 years in prison when he is sentenced on April 5.
