Springfield Twp. weighs plan for shopping plaza

A site plan for an 18,000-square-foot strip shopping center with eight to 12 shops proposed for North McCord Road will be considered by Springfield Township trustees April 16.

The $1 million to $1.25 million building at 1016-1112 North McCord proposed by Gary Grup of Ottawa Hills and Harvey Tolson of Sylvania Township was discussed at last night's trustees' meeting. A decision was delayed because trustees decided to ask the Lucas County engineer's office about a late change in the plans.

Mr. Grup said he hopes the building just south of Dorr Street on the east side of McCord would be finished by summer and rented by the end of the year.

Trustees approved a plan for the Adams Conservation Club to build a 2,400-square-foot clubhouse at 240 South McCord Rd. The building, to be finished by summer, is expected to cost $250,000, said Tim Bowes, president of the 1,300-member private sporting club. It is to replace a clubhouse that burned in September.
