Car strikes toddler on North Superior

A 2-year-old boy was injured seriously yesterday when he was hit by a car in front of his home at 1985 North Superior St., police said.

Arturo Tapia was in serious condition at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center shortly after the accident about 4:10 p.m.

The boy lives in an upstairs apartment at 1985 North Superior with his parents and two older brothers. His parents were at home, Officer DaveMcClellan said.

The toddler walked down a flight of steps, outside the residence, and started to cross the street. He was hit by a southbound car driven by James C. Thompson, 68, of 1418 Fernwood Ave., the officer said.

Mr. Thompson, who was driving about 20 mph, slowed down when he saw the child. Mr. Thompson was not injured. An investigation is continuing.
