Ice cream truck runs over child's arm

4/9/2001

A small boy was injured yesterday when an ice cream truck ran over his right arm in front of his home on Colton Street, police said.

Matthew Barker, 21 months old, was in fair condition last night at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Police officer Jeffrey Scott said the boy's parents had bought ice cream when the truck stopped at the curb about 3:30 p.m. at 1460 Colton. The parents each thought the other was watching Matthew when the truck began to pull away from the curb, apparently striking the child and running over his arm.

The driver, Anthony Hague, 41, of 240 21st St., was arrested on unrelated traffic warrants. He also was charged with not carrying his driver's license. The truck was owned by Dewitt Woodson, of 2243 Kent St.
