Mary Ann Whipple, an attorney at the law firm of Fuller & Henry, will begin work Tuesday as a judge in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Toledo.

Ms. Whipple, a 1981 graduate of Stanford University law school, was selected by the 12 judges of the U.S. 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Cincinnati.

She will replace Judge Walter Krasniewski, who retired in 1997. Judge Richard Speer has been the only judge on the local bankruptcy bench since that time.

The local court, which in the mid 1980s used to get about 2,000 cases annually, had nearly that number through March of this year.

The salary for federal bankruptcy judges is $133,492. They serve a term of 14 years.
