Public invited to hear plans for visitor center

BOWLING GREEN - The Wood County Park District is looking for public input before making final building plans for a visitor center at the W.W. Knight Nature Preserve on White Road in Perrysburg Township.

The park district has scheduled a town meeting to discuss the design and location of the center for 7 p.m. May 9 in Perrysburg city council chambers.

The district has identified three sites it is considering for the visitor center, which tentatively includes restrooms, a wildlife viewing room, staff office space, and a large meeting room that could be used for nature programming.

Two years ago, the park district shelved plans to build an underground center after touring similar structures, where they learned the underground facilities had problems with moisture, air quality, and leaks, said Neil Munger, director of the park district.

The district has about $350,000 set aside for the project.
