Delphos hires company to study reservoir project

DELPHOS, Ohio - The city has hired an engineering firm to conduct a reservoir feasibility study. Delphos and surrounding villages need an additional water source to maintain state-mandated levels.

URS, which has Ohio offices in Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Akron, and Solon, was picked from three finalists. It has experience in the area, having worked on master water plans for Allen and Putnam counties.

During the last decade, officials have faced a series of obstacles in obtaining water. They negotiated a contract four times to receive water from nearby Lima, and each time it fell through. The Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District sued the city last year because they believed the city was harming a nature preserve by pumping water from a well field.

The work will be paid for from a state grant and is expected to begin by early June.
