FREMONT - The Ohio Power Siting Board has approved construction of a $355 million electric generating plant in Fremont.
The 704-megawatt Calpine Corp. facility is expected to be open in about 21/2 years.
The company hopes to begin construction this summer on a 95-acre site that Fremont annexed earlier this month from Sandusky Township.
The Fremont school board approved a 10-year, 100 percent tax abatement on personal property and real estate taxes for the company last week. Fremont city council is expected to vote June 7 on the abatement.
