KENTON, Ohio - An Upper Sandusky man charged with killing an elderly nursing home patient pleaded not guilty yesterday in Hardin County Common Pleas Court.

Daniel Brodman, 21, is charged with aggravated murder and involuntary manslaughter by patient abuse in connection with the Dec. 16, 1998, death of Thelma Longberry, 87. Prosecutors have not said how they believe Mr. Brodman, a nurse's aide, killed Miss Longberry.

Police began investigating the death after Mr. Brodman allegedly confessed to a Carey police officer.

Judge David Faulkner continued Mr. Brodman's bond at $50,000. He is being held in the Multi-County jail in Marion and also is facing charges of theft from Hardin County and passing bad checks from Hancock County.
