Fremont doctor honored for aiding migrant workers

FREMONT - A local doctor will receive national recognition today for providing health care to rural residents in three counties, namely migrant workers.

Dr. Alvin Jackson was selected from among 577 nominees to receive a $100,000 award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Community Health Leadership Program. The foundation, the largest private philanthropic organization dedicated to improving health and health care for Americans, will recognize nine other people this year.

Dr. Jackson is being credited for operating a mobile clinic in migrant camps, serving an estimated population of about 8,500. He works at the Community Health Services center in Fremont.
