PUT-IN-BAY - The Put-in-Bay police department is one of seven law enforcement agencies to receive the maximum $30,000 in marine patrol grant money from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources division of watercraft.

Put-in-Bay used its award to buy a 27-foot Boston Whaler marine patrol boat, police Chief Jim Lang said. The Lucas County sheriff's office also received $30,000.

Other northwest Ohio communities to receive funding include Sandusky police, $22,500; Ottawa County sheriff's office, $21,819.48; Toledo police, $18,421.49; Perrysburg Township police, $15,000; Vermilion police, $12,176, and the Henry County sheriff's office, $750.

The grants are intended to help local marine patrols with boating safety and enforcement efforts. Besides patrol boats, departments use the money to buy radio equipment and drug and alcohol testing kits, and to conduct boating education programs.
