State begins improvements to I-75 interchange in Lima

1/10/2013

LIMA, Ohio - An intersection improvement project at the base of the northbound I-75 exit ramp to State Rts. 117 and 309 here will begin today, the Ohio Department of Transportation said.

During the 60-day project, a traffic island at the intersection will be eliminated, ramp lanes will be reconfigured, and a new traffic signal will be put up.

Accident statistics show that most of 21 accidents at the intersection between 1997 and '99 were rear-end or side-swipe collisions involving ramp traffic merging with eastbound vehicles. The traffic light will eliminate the merge pattern.

I-75 traffic will not be affected, but motorists on the ramp and on the routes may encounter lane closings and brief delays.
