BRYAN - A 78-year-old woman was killed yesterday when a cement-mixing truck apparently ran a red light and collided with her car about five miles north of Bryan, troopers at the Defiance post of the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Wilma N. Whitney, of Montpelier, was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

According to troopers, Ms. Whitney was northbound on State Rt. 15 about 1:05 p.m. when her car was struck by the truck driven by Larry A. Welch, 53, who was eastbound on County Road E and reportedly had run the red light. The truck is owned by Phals Ready Mix, of Bryan. Mr. Welch was treated at Community Hospitals of Williams County-Bryan. The accident is under investigation, troopers said.
