Tuberculosis scare means testing for GM workers

6/5/2001

DEFIANCE - Health officials at GM Powertrain started testing employees yesterday for tuberculosis after a worker tested positive for the disease last week.

Joe Farinella, personnel director for the plant, said about 3,000 employees will be asked to voluntarily undergo free testing during work shifts.

The testing should be completed by today, Mr. Farinella said.

The employee who tested positive for tuberculosis is under his physician's care and is recovering at his Defiance County home.
