OAK HARBOR - An Oregon man was killed when the dump box of a truck he was working underneath dropped and crushed him, the Ottawa County sheriff's office said.

Vincent Lumbrezer, 78, of North Curtice Road, was greasing parts of the truck's undercarriage Monday when the raised dump box lowered and pinned him against the vehicle's frame. Mr. Lumbrezer was pronounced dead at the scene, a few hundred feet north of Toussaint North Road in Benton Township.

Mr. Lumbrezer, who owned the truck and Toledo Alfalfa Mills in Oregon, was preparing to work in nearby fields with combines and other farm equipment when the accident occurred. The sheriff's office said an inspection revealed no obvious problems with the truck or its hydraulic system.
