A Walbridge man is charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless operation, assault, resisting arrest, and driving under suspension after a chase the night of July 18 and early July 19, Oregon authorities said.

The pursuit began at about 11:45 p.m. in the 300 block of North Wheeling Street when an officer saw a flat-bed truck matching the description of one involved in an attempted vehicular assault minutes earlier.

The chase ended 40 minutes later in Lake Township at the intersection of East Broadway Street and State Rt. 795, according to a report.

The accused driver, Matthew W. McNamee, 26, of 107 East Perry St., was released by police yesterday after posting 10 percent of a $2,000 bond. His arraignment in Oregon Municipal Court is scheduled for tomorrow.

The chase, at 35 mph, went along Navarre Avenue into East Toledo. It continued south on East Broadway through Northwood and into Lake Township, where Mr. McNamee stopped in a parking lot at the State Rt. 795 intersection, according to the report.

Officers had to break a window and pull Mr. McNamee out of the truck. Once outside the vehicle, Mr. McNamee kicked and struck officers, the report states.

Walbridge police have filed a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle against Mr. McNamee in Perrysburg Municipal Court. The truck belongs to Mr. McNamee's employer, according to police.
