Planners favor zone change in Monclova

7/26/2001

A zoning change from agricultural use was recommended yesterday by the Lucas County plan commission to allow for a housing and commercial development along Monclova Road, west of Jerome Road in Monclova Township.

The site is at what is referred to as Mud Road, which is an unimproved right-of-way for the possible extension of Strayer Road.

Kurt Miller, one of the owners of the property, told commission members that developers plan to eventually have about 220 housing units in the development, which is to be constructed in phases.

He said the original application, which had sought commercial zoning for about 6.5 acres was amended to about half that to appease others living in the area.

Commissioners suggested that the commercial area be somewhat larger to allow for greater setbacks and for more landscaping along the roadways.

The entrance to the commercial property and housing development will be off Monclova Road.

The rezoning issued will be decided by the Monclova Township trustees.
