BOWLING GREEN - A member of the Wood County sheriff's fire investigation unit has been charged with impersonating a peace officer after he allegedly pulled out a badge and confronted a motorist last week.

James V. Davis, 52, of Bowling Green is to be arraigned in Bowling Green Municipal Court this morning on the first-degree misdemeanor charge.

A Bowling Green woman told police she was confronted by Mr. Davis July 24 after he followed her to her apartment, yelled at her for nearly colliding with his pickup, flashed a badge, and began reciting the Miranda rights. She wrote down his license plate number and called 911.

Members of the fire investigation unit are not paid or issued a gun or badge by the sheriff's office.
