Development plan stalls in Monclova Township

8/11/2001

A proposed commercial development on a 67-acre parcel near Albon Road and U.S. Route 20A in Monclova Township has been put on hold after residents reacted negatively to the plans, Robert Gersten, an investor in the Albon Development project, said yesterday.

Township officials have been concerned about controlling rapid growth and want to preserve a small-town atmosphere.

Skyrocketing census figures and increasing land value lured developers to propose a development that would have included a Kroger store, business offices, a luxury apartment complex, and an assisted-living facility.

Developers have not decided if they will submit a revised proposal to the township trustees, Mr. Gersten said.
