Committee formed to raise money for Putnam YMCA

9/3/2001

OTTAWA, Ohio -- A committee of 28 people has been formed to begin raising money for construction of a countywide YMCA just north of this city.

The group decided recently to begin its initial fund-raising drive starting this month. A public campaign will start in January and wrap up with a membership drive in May, 2002.

Duane Weaver, executive director of the YMCA, said property on State Rt. 109 north of the village is being eyed for the new Putnam County facility.

The YMCA currently operates from a storefront facility in Columbus Grove.

The goal is to raise $3.5 million for the project, with the community goal to be $2 million.
