Defiance city leaders back U.S. 24 projects

DEFIANCE — City leaders say they support a proposed U.S. 24 interchange and overpass that could help reduce accidents in this northwest Ohio community.

The city council this week expressed its support in a resolution that will be sent to the state's Transportation Review Advisory Council, which prioritizes funding for major road projects.

The intersection and overpass could cost $15 million. But Mayor Fred Schultz said the city probably will have to contribute money for the projects.

Officials said the project will improve traffic on U.S. 24, a narrow, two-lane highway that stretches from Toledo to the Indiana border.
