Pumpkin events at zoo, Ottawa Park

A storytelling witch, a ventriloquist, magic shows, and even pumpkin bowling are part of the Toledo Zoo's Pumpkin Path.

The annual event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow and Sunday at the zoo, 2700 Broadway. Trick-or-treaters will get a piece of candy at each of 26 themed stations.

In pumpkin bowling, participants roll a volleyball painted to look like a pumpkin toward bowling pins, said Andi Norman, zoo spokeswoman. Cost is $1 to bowl three “pumpkins."

Admission is $7.50 for adults, $4.50 for seniors 60 and older and children 2-11. If the zoo's parking lot is full, a free shuttle will run from the Value City parking lot on Detroit Avenue in Maumee.

At Ottawa Park, the 18th Annual Pumpkinarama takes place from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the park on Kenwood Boulevard, across from Toledo Hospital.

Larry Anderson, programs officer for Toledo's parks, recreation and forestry department, said between 3,000 and 4,000 people are expected to attend the free event. Children are encouraged to come in costume.

New events for this year include pedal carts for children, plus the return of hay rides, which disappeared from the list of activities several years ago, Mr. Anderson added. Other features include face painting, photographs, arts and crafts, balloons, and candy.
