11/10/2001

TIFFIN - A city council member pleaded not guilty yesterday to a pair of tax-related felony charges.

Dale Depew was charged Oct. 11 with withholding payment of employee taxes, a fifth-degree felony, and failing to remit vendor sales tax, a fourth-degree felony. The charges relate to his business, Seneca Printing Co.

He was arraigned yesterday in Seneca County Common Pleas Court before visiting Judge Kathleen Aubry. A Jan. 25 pretrial conference has been scheduled in the case.

Mr. Depew pleaded no contest in April, 2000, to three counts of failing to file state tax returns for his business. He was fined $300, ordered to pay back taxes to the Ohio Department of Taxation, and put on probation for one year on the misdemeanor charges.
