Sunshine, Inc., of Northwest Ohio, during an open house yesterday on its Maumee Western Road campus in Springfield Township, showed off two facilities that have opened to help families cope with the round-the-clock care of children with developmental disabilities.
Visitors saw the "respite house - a five-bedroom home donated, moved to the grounds, and renovated - which is a place where Lucas County children with disabilities can stay overnight for as long as two weeks, allowing family members to go on vacation or take a break from care-giving. The respite house project cost $100,000, Christine Keran, Sunshine director of family support services, said.
Sunshine showed off its adjacent multi-purpose facility, built at a cost of $300,000, which is used for teen and young adult weekend respite programs, Mrs. Keran said.
