Gas prices dip under 90 cents in Toledo area

11/27/2001

Gasoline prices dipped into the upper 80s at several Toledo-area filling stations yesterday, their first sustained trip below the 90-cent mark in nearly three years.

A Fuel Mart and a Clark on Woodville Road lowered their prices for self-service, unleaded regular to 87.9 cents per gallon, and the Flying J truck stop in Lake Township posted 89.9 cents per gallon.

Prices in the 90s were common elsewhere in the metropolitan area.

Local gasoline prices now are the lowest since the winter of 1998-1999, when regular fell as low as 75.9 cents per gallon in southwest Toledo in February, 1999, during the peak of an economic slowdown in Asia.

The price decline has been attributed to a United States recession that has been accelerated by the Sept. 11 attacks.
