Springfield Twp., Maumee races to be recounted

12/6/2001

When the Lucas County board of elections meets Monday to certify the vote in the Nov. 6 election, it will trigger a recount in two races: one for a seat on the Maumee board of education and another for a seat on the Springfield Township board of trustees.

Both races feature candidates who finished within 0.5 of a percent of each other, triggering the automatic recount.

In Springfield Township, the margin triggering a recount was 30 votes. Robert Bethel edged Andy Glenn by five votes, 1,573 to 1,568.

Marilyn Yoder, a former trustee who lost her post in 1993, easily won back a seat on the board in the election with 1,808 votes.

In the Maumee school board race, the margin triggering a recount was 37 votes. Stephanie Piechowiak finished seven votes ahead of Thomas Leonard, 1,500 to 1,493. Two other candidates won school board seats: Sylvia Washburn, who received 1,982 votes, and Glenn Rambo, who got 1,668 votes.

The recounts are to take place next week.
