Toledo Hospital to pay $18,500 pollution fine

12/22/2001

Toledo Hospital has agreed to pay $18,500 to settle a pollution violation it had from its former medical waste incinerator.

The incinerator failed an emissions test for carbon monoxide and hydrochloric acid May 29, 1998. Improvements were made, but the hospital notified officials Aug. 31, 1999 that it decided to stop operating the unit, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said.

The fine will be used to promote environmental education and programs aimed at curbing air pollution, the agency said.
