Tiffin studio theater named for backer of area projects

TIFFIN — The Ritz Theatre has named its new studio theater for the National Machinery Foundation, which has supported Tiffin-area community projects for more than half a century.

The National Studio Theater, which will seat about 100 people, is scheduled to open Jan. 8 with the first performance of an interactive play, Late Night Catechism, a take-off on nuns and Catholic education.

The studio theater is part of a 10,000-square-foot annex that has been constructed in the rear of the Tiffin Theatre.

The studio theater is a plain “black box” that will allow audience members to sit on the same level as the performers for one-act plays, jazz concerts, poetry readings, and other shows.
