Hayward back on library board, named president

2/7/2002

John F. Hayward, a partner in the law firm Shumaker Loop & Kendrick, has been reappointed to another seven-year term as a trustee of the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library - and was promptly re-elected trustee board president.

Mr. Hayward, a trustee since 1973, was reappointed by the Lucas County commissioners. At the trustees' annual organizational meeting, he was unanimously approved as the board president. The board approved Randy Clay as board vice president and George Tucker as secretary.

Mr. Hayward is the longest-serving member of the current board. Thomas Anderson, of The Andersons, whose 31-year tenure ended in 1984, holds the record, Chris Kozak, a library spokesman, said. Mr. Anderson became a trustee on the city library board and remained following the merger in the 1970s that created the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library system.

Trustees oversee the library. Three are appointed by judges of Lucas County Common Pleas Court and four are appointed by the board of Lucas County commissioners.
