Some Tiffin water bills to increase

2/7/2002

TIFFIN - City residents and factories soon will pay more for water, but commercial users will pay less.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio yesterday approved a rate request by the Ohio-American Water Co. that increases residential rates by about 4.6 percent.

According to the rate filing, a typical residential customer who now pays $56.56 every two months will pay $2.62 more once the new rates take effect. That date has not yet been determined, but notice of the higher rates will be distributed in the first billing for which the new rates apply.

The water company applied for the rate increase in May, 2001, and hearings were held during December in Ohio-American's service areas, including a Dec. 18 hearing in Tiffin.

Ohio-American also provides water service in Ashtabula, Marion, and Waverly, Ohio.
