Other health care providers:

In addition to the area's hospitals, there are dozens of smaller groups of physicians, from family practice doctors to specialists in a variety of medical fields. Some of these physicians are affiliated with or owned by a larger health system, while some are independent.

Suggestions on finding a doctor: Check with your health plan. Your plan may have a panel of physicians you're required to select from in order to be reimbursed for medical expenses. The phone book lists area physicians and other medical providers.

The Academy of Medicine of Toledo-Lucas County is the professional organization representing many of the area's physicians. The Academy has a physician referral line and can provide information on physicians, their specialties and their locations. Call 473-3200 and ask for the referral desk. Also, many of the area health systems and hospitals have physician referral lines.
