FREMONT - A Bellevue man has been sentenced in Sandusky County Common Pleas Court to spend a year in prison for robbing a video store in January, 2001.

Judge Harry Sargeant sentenced James Robertson, 41, Wednesday. Robertson had pleaded guilty to a charge of robbery in connection with an incident at Cindy's Video Store in Bellevue, where he took $257 in cash. Police say Robertson claimed to have a weapon but none was seen. An off-duty Bellevue police deputy, Michael Meggitt, saw the suspect flee and gave chase. Deputy Meggitt followed Robinson out of the city and onto State Rt. 101.

When the suspect stopped his car and ran on foot, the deputy drove off the road in pursuit. As he drove, Deputy Meggitt's SUV hit four small pine trees, one of which the suspect was hiding behind. Robertson was hit by the tree and injured.

He spent several months recovering in St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, before he was charged.
