Bluffton firm makes deal with EPA over violations

2/23/2002

BLUFFTON, Ohio - The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said yesterday it reached a settlement with Mid Bus, Inc., calling for the manufacturing facility to reduce the amount of hazardous waste and emissions it generates, and to pay a $47,000 fine.

The agreement with the Bluffton firm involves changes in its paint|ing process, training employees in handling hazardous waste, increased inspections and contingency planning, and better labeling and storage of the waste.

The EPA said Mid Bus has the option of paying only $35,250 into Ohio's hazardous waste cleanup fund and performing several environmental projects in lieu of paying the $11,750 balance.

The Ohio EPA discovered violations at the facility Jan. 20, 2000.
