LIMA, Ohio - A Pemberville, Ohio, man was killed and a Lima man hurt seriously yesterday when a tractor-trailer and a car collided on State Rt. 501 at Fort Amanda Road in Allen County's Shawnee Township about 6 miles southwest of here, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Scott Hegemier, 32, the driver of the semi who was trapped in the vehicle for a time, was pronounced dead at the scene. Thomas A. David, 34, of Lima, the driver of the car, was in serious condition last night in St. Rita's Medical Center here.

Mr. David's car, which was southbound on Route 501, was attempting to turn left onto Fort Amanda about 4:40 p.m. when it failed to yield to Mr. Hegemier's semi, which was northbound on the highway. The intersection has four blinking yellow lights, troopers at the patrol's Lima post said. The semi struck the car in the right front, causing it to spin around and go off the highway, coming to rest on its wheels. The semi, which was empty, went off the highway and overturned, coming to rest on its side, troopers said.

Mr. David was wearing a seatbelt; Mr. Hegemier was not, troopers said.
