School agency challenges Hancock rental charges

3/13/2002

FINDLAY - The superintendent of the Hancock County Educational Service Center said he will file a formal objection to the county commissioners' decision to charge the agency rent for its offices at the former county home.

Larry Busdeker met with commissioners yesterday in an effort to change their minds. If the two sides cannot reach an agreement, the issue ultimately would go to Probate Court.

Last week, commissioners approved a plan to phase in annual rent of $94,000 over the next five years. This is the first time counties have been allowed by state law to charge rent. In the past, they were required to provide office space for the agencies formerly known as county school boards.
