Delphos faces fines for treatment plant breaches

DELPHOS, Ohio - The city is facing $137,000 in proposed fines for violations at its wastewater treatment plant.

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency said the city has a number of problems involving the overflow of sewage into Jennings Creek.

Dennis Recker, safety-service director, said the wastewater treatment plant simply isn't big enough to handle the amount of sewage arriving from four local industries.

Mr. Recker said the city plans to work with those companies to see whether they can treat more wastewater before sending it to the city's plant. Then the city will have to determine whether to enlarge or replace the plant.
