4 people hurt in car, van collision in Fulton County

FAYETTE, Ohio - Four people were hurt yesterday, one critically, when a van failed to stop at a stop sign on Fulton County Road L and struck a car on County Road 23 near Fayette, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Fayette teenagers Michelle Towers, 14, and David Sallows, 15, passengers in a car driven by Jennifer Towers, 16, were taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center, Toledo, after their car was hit by a van, flipped, and landed on its top in a field about 7:50 a.m.

Michelle Towers was in critical condition, while young Sallows was in fair condition. Jennifer Towers, Michelle's sister, was treated at Fulton County Health Center. Susumu Kitajima, 41, driver of the van, was in serious condition at St. Vincent.

Mr. Kitajima, of 7112 Cloister, Toledo, was southbound on County Road L when his vehicle hit Jennifer Towers' car, which was westbound on County Road 23. Mr. Kitajima's van caught fire. The accident is under investigation.
