Wannabe anglers get free opportunity

5/28/2002

Saturday and Sunday mark the annual weekend when Ohioans do not need a fishing license to fish in Ohio's public waters.

At all other times of the year the Ohio Department of Natural Resources requires anglers age 16 and older to have a valid fishing license. Annual licenses cost $15 for people age 16 to 66 and one-day licenses are $7. Licenses are free for those 66 and older.

Ohio's Free Fishing Days started in 1993 to promote fishing and allow residents to experience the sport before buying a license.
