HICKSVILLE, Ohio - Two people were hurt when a car rear-ended a horse-drawn buggy, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Ruth Raber, 14, and David Raber, 54, both of Hicksville, are in fair condition in Parkview Memorial Hospital in Fort Wayne, Ind.

According to the patrol's Defiance post, the two were in a buggy heading north on Hicksville-Edgerton Road just south of Arrowsmith Road about 9:40 p.m. Monday when their carriage was hit in the rear by a vehicle driven by Joshua Vowles, 23, of Hicksville. All four occupants of the buggy, including Verna Raber, 56, and Mary Raber, 21, were thrown from it.

A third vehicle, driven by Dolores Spryn, 69, of Cecil, struck David Raber, who was standing in the road.

Both Mr. Vowles and his passenger, Nathan Miller, 23, of Hicksville, refused treatment at the scene of the 9:40 p.m. crash. Ms. Spryn was treated at the scene, as were Verna Raber and Mary Raber.

The crash remains under investigation.
