Alzheimer's patient to be examined for competency

A 71-year-old Alzheimer's patient who was charged with attempting to grab a 5-year-old neighborhood boy from his home was arraigned yesterday in Lucas County Common Pleas Court.

Marilyn Werts, of 4901 Brott Rd., was ordered by Judge Charles Wittenberg to undergo a competency evaluation at the Court Diagnostic and Treatment Center. The case was continued until Aug. 28.

Mrs. Werts was indicted July 26 by a grand jury on two counts each of burglary and attempted abduction. She is accused of walking into the home of a neighbor on two occasions and trying to take the boy.
