Applications will be accepted until Aug. 30 for the program, which uses trained volunteers to patrol on foot the neighborhoods between downtown and campus Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. The purpose is to deter criminal activity and increase respect and cooperation between students and residents.

Applicants, who must be at least 18 and have no criminal record, must submit to a background investigation, and complete a mandatory training program.
