Missing Springfield Twp. man, 82, found in freezer

8/12/2002

The body of an 82-year-old man was found yesterday in an unplugged freezer in the garage of his Springfield Township residence, Lucas County sheriff's deputies said.

Clarence Kujawski, of 338 Layer Rd., was discovered about 1 p.m. yesterday in the garage by a relative, deputies said.

The relative, who called 911, had been at the house changing locks and doing other chores.

Deputies declined to comment on the condition of the body, except to say that it appeared to have been in the freezer for several days. An autopsy has been ordered, authorities said.

Mr. Kujawski was reported missing on Wednesday when deputies went to the residence where he and his son, Robert, lived. Inside the dwelling, deputies discovered the 61-year-old son unconscious.

The son was taken to Flower Hospital, where he remained in serious condition last night. At that time neighbors asked the whereabouts of the elder Mr. Kujawski, who had not been seen in at least two weeks. Deputies had sought the public's help Thursday to find him.

The residence is west of King Road off Nebraska Avenue.
