Sylvania arts commission receives grant

8/14/2002

The Sylvania Arts Commission has received a matching grant of $9,000 from the Ohio Arts Council and will use the funds to support its activities and programs. The grant was awarded through the Black Swamp Rural Arts Initiative program.

The local arts commission was revived last year by a grant of $10,000 from the state.

The commission established about 20 years ago, but had gradually become less active.

Sister Sheila Shea, a Franciscan nun long-active in area arts communities, was named director of the commission last year.
