Farm accident in Willard kills migrant worker, 36

WILLARD, Ohio - Authorities are investigating the death of a migrant farm worker who was run over by a trailer full of cucumbers on a Huron County farm.

The worker, a 36-year-old man from Mexico, was standing on a hitch between the trailer and a tractor that was pulling the load when he fell into the trailer's path Thursday, Huron County Coroner Jeffrey Harwood said. The man, whose identity has not been confirmed, was taken to Willard Mercy Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to the coroner, witnesses said the man made no sound as he fell and made no attempt to get out of the way of the trailer, which was moving slowly on a level surface at Buurma Farms near Willard.

The coroner said the Lucas County coroner's office was to perform an autopsy. Dr. Harwood said foul play is not suspected.
