2 new cases of West Nile detected in Lucas County

Two more human cases of West Nile virus have been detected in Lucas County, bringing the total to nine.

In the latest cases, an 84-year-old Toledo man and 15-year-old Toledo girl are suspected of having the virus. No one has died from West Nile virus in Lucas County.

The latest totals for Ohio, Michigan, and the United States are: Ohio, 284 cases and 12 deaths; Michigan, 370 cases and 24 deaths; United States, 2,530 cases and 125 deaths.

Health officials expect cases to continue trickling in until the weather turns cold enough to kill off mosquitoes, which transmit the virus to humans.
