A Weston, Ohio, man was treated for minor injuries in St. Luke's Hospital yesterday after his car rear-ended a school bus on U.S. 24 in Providence Township, authorities said.

Alan Swary, 49, was driving east on U.S. 24 near Box Road at 12:30 p.m. and didn't see the Anthony Wayne Local Schools bus stopped in front of him until it was too late, troopers at the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Mr. Swary's car wedged beneath the rear of the bus. The seven children on board the bus were assessed at the scene and, after determining they were not hurt, were released to another bus and either taken to school or taken home, Susan Cross, a spokeswoman for the district, said.

Julie Byersmith, a bus driver since 1975 with the school district, was not hurt, Ms. Cross said. The bus drops off kindergarten pupils who attend the morning sessions at Waterville Primary School and picks up pupils for the afternoon sessions.

Mr. Swary was cited for failure to maintain an assured clear distance, troopers said.
