FREMONT - Maria Guadalupe Lopez will be honored posthumously by Terra Community College during its Estrella Award dinner tonight.

The dinner, held during Hispanic Heritage Month, highlights the accomplishments of those in the Hispanic community, said Juanita Sanchez, of Terra.

Ms. Lopez, who died in August at age 83, was a former parish council member at St. Wendelin Catholic Church in Fostoria and president of the Guadalupe Society for more than a decade.

Ms. Lopez, who worked 30 years at the Bendix Corp., was involved with the Fremont area's migrant children's program and a volunteer for the migrant ministry, En Camino. She was also a Cub Scout leader and Blue Bird den mother.

Dr. Guadalupe Quintanilla, president of the Cross-Cultural Communications Center of Houston and professor of modern and classic languages at the University of Houston, will be the keynote speaker. The dinner begins at 6 p.m.
