Train smashes pickup; dad, 2 daughters hurt

HASKINS, Ohio — Three people were injured yesterday, one critically, when a train slammed into a pickup truck on King Road near this village, the Wood County Sheriff's Department said.

Raymond Brown, 35, and his daughters, Lindsay, 9, and Melanie, 7, of Haskins, Ohio, were all taken to Toledo hospitals by medical helicopter after the 9:15 a.m. accident.

Mr. Brown was listed in fair condition at Medical College of Ohio Hospitals. Lindsay and Melanie were listed in serious and critical condition, respectively, at St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center.

Mr. Brown was westbound on King Road when he was struck by the northbound freight train, deputies said. The train hit the truck on the driver's side. Authorities are still investigating whether Mr. Brown saw the train. There are no lights or gates at the crossing.
